Prenatal visits

At prenatal visits, I will spend time getting to know you and gaining an understanding of your hopes, wishes and fears for your birth. I can help you write a birth plan and, together, we will use it as a communication tool to make sure that everyone involved in your care understands your preferences for your birth. At subsequent visits, we can practice different labor positions, breathing techniques, and comfort measures.  

Attending your birth

On the day of your birth, I will meet you early on in the labor and stay with you until 1-2 hours after the birth. During the labor, your partner and I will work in tandem to help you cope with contractions. This can include hands-on comfort techniques, hot and cold compresses, position changes, breathing techniques, and more. I will provide emotional support to you and your partner, as well as maintain a calm presence in the delivery room. If any changes to your birth plan are suggested, I can provide informational support by helping you ask questions and get the information you need to make a decision that works for you. After the birth, I will assist with breastfeeding initiation to help you get the best possible start to your breastfeeding journey.

Postpartum visits

At our postpartum visit, we will recount your birth story. I will give you a detailed timeline that you may fill in with your own memories and feelings. If you have any needs for your postpartum adjustment that are beyond the birth doula scope of practice, I can give you referrals to make sure you have all the resources you need.

 

Pricing

My fee for birth doula services is $1200.

This includes the following:

  • 2-3 prenatal visits

  • Phone support

  • On-call fee

  • Attending your birth

  • 1-2 postpartum visits

Backup

I partner with Rowenna Oesch (Kinderhaven Birth & Family Services) and Martha Wasserman (DoulaWoman.com) for instances where a backup doula may be needed. In doula work, it's common practice to have a backup doula identified in case there is a particularly long labor, emergency, or extenuating circumstances that would prevent me from attending the birth.

In cases where backup is necessary, no additional costs or financial responsibility will be placed on my clients beyond my standard fee as listed above.
